Outpatient care
Outpatient care is a key pillar of the German healthcare system. As the first point of contact for patients, community-based doctors and medical care centres play a crucial role. In contrast to other European countries, specialist medical care in Germany is provided predominantly in an outpatient setting.
The IGES Institut provides comprehensive research and consulting services relating to all aspects of outpatient care. Our expertise encompasses issues relating to the future structure, access and accessibility, quality and reimbursement of outpatient services, as well as medical education and training. We support the development and evaluation of new forms of care such as primary care centres, doctors' networks or telemedicine services.
Drawing on our many years of experience in health services research (HSR), we analyse existing structures, develop innovative models of care and evaluate new forms of service provision. Against this backdrop, we make use of extensive data resources and combine different methodological approaches – ranging from the analysis of routine data and surveys to qualitative research methods.
We understand the complex interrelationships between different areas of healthcare. This means we are able to develop integrated solutions that both improve the quality of care and take economic efficiency into account.
