Medicinal products
The development of novel and innovative medicinal products makes a decisive contribution to medical progress. At the same time, the pharmaceutical market is one of the most dynamic and, due to its high level of regulation, one of the most complex areas of healthcare. In Germany, as in other countries, pharmaceutical companies generally operate in highly regulated markets shaped by the requirements of social health insurance funds or government institutions. Key issues include market access, the availability of new therapies to patients, pricing, volume regulation and benefit assessment.
The IGES Institut has decades of experience in analysing the pharmaceutical market. Since the 1980s, the Institut has addressed questions relating to the needs-based provision of medicinal products and has established itself as a leading expert in this field.
With the publication of its Arzneimittel-Atlas (pharmaceuticals atlas) for the first time in 2006, the IGES Institut created a standard reference work for analysing expenditure trends in the pharmaceutical market. The IGES Institut combines pharmaceutical, medical and economic expertise in the field of medicinal products.
The strictly fact-based approach of the IGES Institut ensures that all analyses and assessments are grounded in robust data and sound methodologies. By combining different data sources and analytical methods, IGES is able to establish a comprehensive picture of the pharmaceutical market and its dynamics and to address a wide range of questions relating to this market. The findings help support informed decision-making – whether in the development and market launch of new medicinal products, in regulatory matters or in the optimisation of healthcare strategies.
