Die englischsprachige Publikation „Reimbursement and Pricing of Pharmaceuticals in Europe“ erscheint aufgrund hoher Nachfrage bereits in vierter Auflage.

Pharma guide provides information about EU-HTA and the EU pharmaceutical market

The already-underway harmonisation of the benefit assessment of new therapies at EU level is one of the most important projects of European drug regulation. Pharmaceutical companies should prepare for this in good time. The topic of EU-HTA is therefore also the latest addition to a guide on the European pharmaceutical market.

The EU-wide clinical evaluation of new medicinal products will be applied in a first stage from 2025 and will then gradually extended to all centrally licensed preparations. Many details of this changeover of the Health Technology Assessment (HTA) in Europe are currently still being clarified. However, it is important for companies to prepare for this now. This is especially true for the planning and implementation of clinical trials, which will feed into the future HTA process at EU level.

This poses a particular challenge for innovative biotech companies that want to bring their developments to market in Europe for the first time and are generally not yet very familiar with the European drug authorities. Often these are manufacturers of orphan drugs, therapeutic agents for rare diseases. For developers based in Europe, however, the harmonisation of assessment procedures will also require special attention and changeovers.

Drug market experts of the IGES Group from the areas of market access, reimbursement and HTA have been advising companies in this field for years. Their experience has therefore also been incorporated into the guide.

The English-language publication "Reimbursement and Pricing of Pharmaceuticals in Europe" is already in its fourth edition due to high demand. The 69-page printed document also provides an overview of the current registration, pricing and reimbursement systems of the five largest European countries: Germany, France, Italy, Great Britain and Spain. Numerous graphical presentations of the licensing and evaluation processes make comprehension easier. Important market data and basic information on the social and health systems in these top 5 countries are also provided.
